PPO Best Practices for Treating Obesity
and Reducing the Toll of Co-Morbidities

AAPPO is pleased to bring you information on the health problem of obesity along with a series of Issue Briefs addressing bariatric surgery considerations for PPOs.   Obesity is a growing public health problem in the U.S., and is a contributing factor to many chronic diseases including diabetes, heart disease, and joint disease.  Approximately 127 million adults in the U.S. are overweight, 60 million obese, and 9 million severely obese. In the past decade, the rate of bariatric surgery has increased six fold and evidence is accumulating about the health effects of surgery.
